The World War 1939–1945

Norwegian Volunteers in Russia

Upon retiring in 1992 — a circumstance one greeted with somewhat more relief than one's former colleagues might have wished — I undertook to transcribe a selection of my father's notes concerning our family history, and gathered additionally some new information about the Sundlo and Speilberg families. This material I duly copied and distributed amongst close family members, so that all might know a little more about their origins.

My father had also kept extensive notes from his time amongst Norwegian war volunteers in Russia — the front fighters — and these seemed to deserve a rather wider audience than the immediate family, touching as they do upon matters of some historical interest. I have therefore transcribed a selection of these notes as well.
