Born 1843 at Sundlo; died near Mossing in Åsen. Half-sister of John Kjelbergsen Sundlo. As a child she was blinded in one eye by a cow — an early indication, one might observe, that rural life in Trøndelag did not lack for incident. She was married three times: to Martin Arntsen Naustberget, to Germanus Mossing, and to Ole Mossing. She was accomplished in all farm duties. Germanus died dramatically in an asthma attack outdoors, in her arms. In her final years, a notable scene occurred when Konrad brought his fiancée to visit and Mortine fainted with the exclamation: "Matilde! Don't let the porridge burn!"
