Born the 7th of December, 1814, at Sundlo (baptised 1st January, 1815, at Alstadhaug). He married twice: first to Berte Andersdatter Holm, who died in the typhus epidemic of the 1850s along with all the children from this first marriage; and then to Karen Bergitte Olsdatter Steinsvegan on the 2nd of April, 1857. He sold the farm in the 1890s, retaining a smallholder's rights to accommodation; one morning he was found dead on the floor — which, whilst not a dramatic conclusion by any standard, was at least unambiguous.
